Adding to an already challenging day in the Northern Illawarra, a bushfire has broken out on the ridge at Helensburgh.
Around 9am this morning, a truck overturned on Mt Ousley, forcing the closure of the southbound lanes. This saw heavy traffic diverted down Lawrence Hargrave Drive and forced the RMS to re-open Bulli Pass southbound to help ease congestion.
By lunchtime, traffic on LHD was banked back from the M1 Princes Motorway to Memorial Drive.
With the Mt Ousley now open in both directions and traffic now flowing freely, there’s yet another issue for local motorists.
Initial reports say the blaze is being brought quickly under control by the RFS with one of two southbound lanes closed. Traffic is banked back more than two kilometres.
