Got an overdue library book? Or unpaid Library fines? You’re in luck!
This month, Wollongong Council is allowing you to pay off your fines with tinned food, that will then be distributed to families in need.
The Food for Fines Amnesty runs through the whole month of June, with all tins donated to St Vincents De Paul.
This is the third time the Council has run Food For Fines. The last time, in 2012, more than 1100 tins were collected, wiping off $5000 in fines.
Lord mayor Gordon Bradbury says Food For Fines is a positive initiative that helps support our whole community.
“Every regular-sized tin wipes $5 off your library account. If you bring in two tins, we can take off $10, but nobody will discourage anyone who wants to bring in extra tins!”
The Food for Fines Amnesty is being held at all of Council’s Libraries, including Helensburgh and Thirroul and applies only to fines. Lost items must still be paid for.
