The township of Helensburgh over the past few months has been subjected to various types of crimes and anti-social behaviour including break, enter and steal offences upon the Tigers RLFC, pool, Soccer club,Bilo and the newsagency, stealing of property from the Salvation army which has been donated, stealing of copper wire from the mine and garbage bins. Garbage bins have been knocked over deliberately by motor vehicles, rubbish dumped on Princes Hwy, burn out marks on the roads, unregistered trail bikes being ridden around town and young males being ejected from the Workers Club.
Another issue that has been highlighted is driver behaviour where they don’t actually stop at stop signs. Stop signs are exactly that and are place at intersections that have been assessed as needing the driver to STOP so they can take valuable time to assess traffic conditions and give way to other vehicles. There is no thing as rolling stop sign where people slow down but don’t stop. This happens regularly at Bald Hill, Walker St and Lawrence Hargrave Dr, Cemetery Rd and Parkes St, Lillyvale St and Walker St, Maidstone St and Junction St. Fines apply from $298 and 3 demerit points to $397 and 4 demerit points if in a school zone.
