When was the last time you were excited to receive an energy bill?
Jane Lewis of Thirroul recently received a bill that surpassed her greatest expectations, being less than $100/quarter, thanks to a solar solution that she installed in June 2012. The 1.5kw system was provided by SolarSwitch, a local energy efficiency and solar company that is helping the Sea Cliff Coast community to cut their power costs (in this case), by more than a half.
“When I got the first bill after the installation, I was over the moon, and now look forward to receiving them, especially when they are less than triple figures”, says Jane. “Living close to the escarpment, we do lose the sun earlier in winter, but looking at an average across the year, we’ve noticed a huge difference in our bills”, she says. Jane’s reasons for adding a solar solution are similar to most people’s – mainly economic, also environmental. She takes care to be sensible in the way that she uses her power, trying to use the bulk of her appliances during the day while the light is reaching the panels.
“We heard that the government rebates were changing soon so we got in early. We had no problems getting the system installed – it was all completed by SolarSwitch on the one day. They were very professional throughout the entire process.”
“The last of the rebates are expected to disappear on the 30th of June this year.” says Carolyn Lee from SolarSwitch, “Systems will need to be installed by the cut-off date in order to get the full rebate. Usually, when a rebate change is announced, the lead-time for solar companies gets pushed out to 6-8 weeks, so given it’s April next week, now is a good time to order.”
