Who can resist the chance to play with puppies and kittens?
This Sunday, March 13, there will be cuteness overload at the Puppy and Kitten Love Fest.
Event organiser and Wollongong Animal Rescue Network spokesperson Kelly Fischl says there will be 11 puppies, 11 kittens and two ducks at the event for everyone to cuddle, and potentially, take home!
The abandoned ducklings have become social media celebrities after being taken in by famous pooch Pikelet.
“We saved the Mum from the pound just days before she had the puppies, and 11 popped out,” laughs Kelly. “We think the mum is a Staffy cross but we don’t have any idea of the father. That’s something we try to work on at the Animal Rescue Network. The breed doesn’t matter. I’t’s what’s inside the dog that counts!”
“It’s an expensive process,” she says. “We pay for their vet care, we desex them and fully vaccinate them, then place them in a Foster Home until we can find their ‘Forever Home’. All our dogs are socialised, and by fostering them out, we get to know their personality, so can make a perfect match when people are looking for a furry new family-member!”
“We don’t really take in surrendered pets,” she says. “Most people who have to get rid of an animal can usually find someone to step up. We just look after the abandoned animals, and we also rescue greyhounds.”
