Ten years ago, Helensburgh was a very different place – there was no Bi-Lo, the new housing estates were yet to arrive, and a cup of coffee could only be found at the local take-away. Around this time, a young couple from Cronulla were establishing their family, and saw Helensburgh as the ideal setting to materialise their dreams, including the establishment of what has now become a corner-stone business, R&R Cafe.
Rob and Rowena Lisk opened the doors of the cafe in 2003 after moving here in 2000, and have been serving up great coffee and gourmet treats ever since, but in-between is a great survival story… the business has weathered a turbulent period which saw many others come and go. What remains is a great family business which employs local staff and has fostered strong friendships with the local community.
Rowena says “We just wanted to say a big thanks to all our local customers that have frequented the cafe over the last ten years – the friendships we have made along the way have been terrific. Rob has built up a great reputation as as a chef, and we pride ourselves on excellent customer service.”
The couple built up a very busy catering schedule while they were developing the cafe, but now hand pick those jobs so that they can stay closer to home. These days, the cafe now includes the popular outdoor dining area, and is integrated into the Helensburgh Village Markets, with that area of Walker St being closed off on the second Tuesday of every month.
