It could be a fortnight before Thirroul’s Egg and Dart Gallery opens its doors following that devastating East Coast Low.
They knew they were in trouble early on the Sunday morning when water began to pour through every crack and nail hole in the roof. “It was like a shower in here,” says owner Aaron.
Arron was helped by passers-by as they grabbed beautiful artworks from the walls and storage room and ran them to the safety of ‘Touch of Thai’ just up the road, which means the current exhibition ‘Outback and Out Back by Hal Pratt and Rob Howe has been cut short.
They’re currently waiting for insurance approval to have the ceiling and floors repaired. “We will rise from those sloppy ashes,” says Aaron. “It’s a bummer for the artist but we will be ready for our next exhibition of Henry Jock Walker from July 9, which will be something completely different, and really exciting.”
In the meantime, Egg and Dart’s framing arm is still operating. You can contact them via email or through their usual phone numbers.
