Fighting bushfires in hungry work – long hours in the field and at the fire station mean that our protectors can sometimes be left wanting. Sarah Rayner of Helensburgh, has been actively supporting the fire fighting efforts of our local volunteers by making sure they always have plenty of fuel for their own fires.
“It’s important to make sure they are well fed,” said Sarah, “With the long campaigns, they can’t just nick down to the local take-away shop – so I thought ok, let’s cook up a storm and see what we can give them to make their day a bit brighter.”
After a recent plea for help on Facebook, Sarah was overwhelmed with support from similar minded locals who stepped up to help with their support.
“I thought we might might get say 5 or 10 people saying they could help, but I think there was a list of around 45 who said, yep, tell me what you want and when you want it, and I’ll do it… it was just fantastic.”
Sarah is also organising a benefit night for the 2508 Firies with Carvana Sun and Chuparosa playing at Helensburgh Workers Club on Friday 6th December.
