Join the Beetles with a difference – John the Lady Bird, Paul the Soldier Beetle, George the Christmas Beetle and Ringo the Dung Beetle – for a magical mystery tour of the Wollongong Botanic Garden this school holidays.
The alternative Fab Four are in town from Monday 23 September until Friday 27 September as part of the Garden’s regular school holiday activities.
Children aged between 3 and 12 years can join in the fun of a Lady Bird Treasure Hunt in the Garden, Recycled Beetle Crafts such as making sunflower pots and wooden spoon beetles and flying Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds kites.
The highlight of the activities, which run from 10am-1.30pm daily, is a theatre performance where the Beetles try and save strawberries from the evil strawberry snatchers. The show includes songs like I want to Join Your Band, Here comes the Sun and Strawberry Fields Forever. The audience is encouraged to join in the singing.
“Our school holiday activities are always really popular and given the theme of the September holidays activities, I expect this time it will be no different,’’ Wollongong Botanic Garden Curator Paul Tracey said.
“There is no need for people to book their kids in for this fun day out, but I would encourage them to get to the gardens early.’’
The Beetles are at the Wollongong Botanic Garden this week only. Things start at 10am, and the cost is $9 per child. For families of two or more children it’s only $18. Parents and carers are free and children should be accompanied by an adult. Entry to the Gardens is by Madoline Street. There’s limited free parking available. The Lions Club and The Friends of the Garden will be on hand with a sausage sizzle and the Frogs Hollow gift shop.
