Feedback from Wollongong City Council’s “Securing Our Future” campaign has been used to develop a new set of options – the Northern Illawarra community is now invited to provide feedback on these updated choices. You can have your say HERE, or by sending an email, or writing a letter to Council addressed to the General Manager, Locked Bag 8821, Wollongong DC NSW 2500.
All feedback must be received by Council by 5pm on Wednesday 5 February 2014.
“We as a Council and a community are facing a significant challenge to fund our community infrastructure into the future.” said Diane Saunderson, Community Engagement Officer, “If we don’t, we will lose services as assets reach their end of life and fail. Only, we won’t get to pick what or when. We’re not the only ones working on this challenge: many of NSW’s 152 Councils are faced with the same issue of making sure there is enough money for infrastructure renewal.”
“The conversations we have had together have resulted in three alternative funding scenarios. We would like your feedback on the options which propose different combinations of these same elements:
- Efficiencies including possible outsourcing and staff level changes
- Service changes including possible cuts, closures or privatisation
- Fees and charges increases
- Rates increases of varying levels
To find out more about these options please read key documents in the Document Library on the Council website
We are also exhibiting new draft versions of two of our most important strategic plans which show how the three different options would impact on our budget, programs and services.”
The *Delivery Program* is a plan which sets out the key actions Council will undertake in the next 5 years in working towards the community goals included in Wollongong 2022 – Community Strategic Plan.
The *Resourcing Strategy* outlines how Council will achieve the community’s long term aspirations set out in Wollongong 2022 – Community Strategic Plan through the allocation and management of our finances, assets and people. It includes three components including the Long Term Financial Plan, the Asset Management Plan and the Workforce Management Strategy.
