A new, mysterious dining experience is set to take over the Illawarra. The ‘Silver Screen Supper’ combines local food, entertainment, mystery and intrigue to bring you a memorable dining experience, and all profits go to a local charity.
The mystery events are run by Covert Cuisine, fronted by Alison Perizi, aka Agent Edesia. Drawing inspiration from similar events in Newcastle, Alison is now introducing mysterious dining events to the Illawarra, with the premier event, Silver Screen Supper, in Wollongong on June 14th.
As a self confessed foodie, Alison wanted to combine her love of food, experience in events and passion for social justice to build something special.
“I envisioned introducing a secret dining experience to the Illawarra… to make my passion for good food and fresh regional produce work for the benefit of local charities,” explains Alison.
Alison is no stranger to such charitable pursuits, having been involved in many other interesting projects in the past. In 2009 she spent time in the Mathare slum in Nairobi, Kenya. She used old keyboards to develop a learning resource for disadvantaged children to help with English literacy.
Four years ago, Alison made the move to Wollongong after being approached by a non-profit. Working with Psychiatric Rehabilitation Australia (PRA), she helped establish the Renewable Recyclers social enterprise based in North Wollongong. Renewable Recyclers reduce, reuse and recycle electronic waste in order to provide employment and training opportunities for people with barriers to mainstream employment. The project won the Illawarra Women in Business ‘Best New Business’ in 2011.
After making her mark early in the Illawarra community, it wasn’t long before she fell in love with the region.
“I love the lifestyle and the fact that we have so many amazing places, people and things to see and do right on our door step,” says Alison.
The Illawarra is now home for Alison. After taking time off on maternity leave, she is back to being involved in the community, channeling her love for fresh food, local produce and social justice into Covert Cuisine.
The premier event Silver Screen Supper is being held at an iconic local venue.
“It has a history of happy memories, and will be transformed for our contemporary culinary experience,” explains Alison.
To keep the surprise, a text message will be sent out on the day with details of the event’s location.
Guests will be treated to a 3-course mystery meal prepared by an outstanding local chef who has worked in some of the finest kitchens in Sydney. The evening will also feature live entertainment by an act that includes local performers known for their interactive style, prizes and best-dressed awards.
“It’s a great way for like-minded people to mingle, enjoy food and mix up the traditional experience of eating out,” says Alison.
