Wollongong Police have issued a warning to surfers following the theft of a car from Sandon Point car park, saying thieves will sit and wait for for perfect opportunity.
Police believe the man hid his keys in the wheel arch before hitting the water.
They say while he was surfing, the ute was stolen, complete with the man’s wallet and house keys. The stolen credit card was then used at a number of businesses across Wollongong.
In a great result, the police attended a home at Unanderra, arresting a thirty seven year old man and charging him with a string of offences.
Police are urging surfers and swimmers to be careful, saying there are people who are prepared wait for someone to use ‘the most obvious place’ to hide their keys.
“Wollongong Police are urging the community to secure keys and belongings whilst surfing or at the beach especially with warmer weather upon us and summer months coming up.
“Police are also encouraging members of the public to report suspicious behaviour.
