There’s a new family-owned vet in town, and we are all invited to the party!
Long-time Coledale residents Matt and Jen O’Donnell have realised their long-held dream, opening Northern Illawarra Veterinary Hospitalon the Princes Highway at Bulli, (just past Hospital Road).
Matt has worked as a vet in the Illawarra for more than 20 years and says he’s noticed a real change locally.
“Dogs have graduated from the backyard to the bedroom,” he says. “People are certainly investing more into their pets and wanting to make better care of them.
“I’ve also noticed people have more unusual pets, including reptiles, bunnies and birds. I’ve see everything from pythons and bearded dragons to blue tongues and turtles.”
Matt and Jen’s new surgery is brand-spanking new. Matt has a particular interest in small animal surgery (He’s a member of the Australian College of Veterinary Surgeons Small animal chapter) so everything is clean, shiny, organised and includes all the latest in surgical equipment.”
The devoted owner of a 16 year old Labrador, Sally, Matt says they’re regulars at Sharky Beach. “We have to drive her there now, but she loves to walk to the shoreline and flop down to watch the waves.
“We also have three year old Cavoodle ‘Pepper’ who is a ball of energy. Sally is her rock, her mother-figure. They’re best of friends and it’s lovely they have that connection.”
To celebrate the opening of the Northern Illawarra Veterinary Hospital, Matt and Jen are holding an Open Day on Saturday December 16 between 10am-1pm.
Bring your furry friends along to meet Matt and Jen for all sorts of prizes and giveaways. There will also be local handmade pet treats and toys as well as entertainment for the kids. There will also be a wildlife demonstration by Shoalhaven Zoo!
The Open Day will be held at the new Northern Illawarra Veterinary Hospital 332 Princes Highway Bulli.
