The State Government’s ‘Hub’ strategy appears to have worked on our local railway stations.
New figures show the 2013 Timetable alterations which saw trains sail through the smaller Northern Illawarra stations, only stopping at Thirroul have increased the number of commuters at Thirroul by more than 70%!
It’s little wonder the timetable caused such a headache for local business as parking pressures crippled the village.
The State Government is yet to release any data on the effects of this alteration, Local business owners and residents report an increase in traffic around Austinmer Station, however there still appears to be vacant parking spots on most days.
The 2014 survey showed the following:-
Helensburgh Station,- patronage has dropped 20% with 680 commuters per day.
Stanwell Park- Patronage dropped 5.9% to 160 commuters a day
Austinmer- Patronage dropped 23.8% to 160 people per day.
Thirroul- patronage INCREASED 71% with 1440 commuters per day
