Good news for local commuters. A new train timetable is on its way!
The existing timetable, implemented a couple of years ago, has caused nothing but heartache in the Northern Illawarra. Smaller stations are barely serviced, while Thirroul has been made a hub, attracting inordinate amounts of traffic.
Commuters flocking in from both the north and the south have caused parking issues within the village, which have then affected local businesses as shoppers are unable to find a parking spot and therefore spend their money elsewhere.
A band-aid solution has been the construction of a new commuter car park, seven minutes walk to the west of the station, however almost a year since it’s opening and it’s barely utilised.
While timetable changes are believed to be due on March 6, Parliamentary Secretary for the Illawarra Gareth Ward won’t confirm that date, but
says change is in the wind!
“It’s no surprise I’ve been working on the rail issues in the Northern Suburbs,” says Gareth. “I’ve been actively working to resolve connectivity issues within, and when these changes have been finalised I will make an announcement.”
