Great news. One of the monkeys stolen from Symbio last week has been recovered.
Three Pygmy Marmoset monkeys, Gomez, an adult male, young female Sophia and a four week old baby who is yet to be named were stolen from the Helensburgh Wildlife Park some time on Friday night or early Saturday morning. Entry to their enclosure had been forced.
A call to Crimestoppers saw police stop a vehicle at Appin this afternoon (Sunday November 27). They searched the vehicle and found the baby money, alive, in the car.
While there are serious concerns for the wellbeing of all the stolen monkeys, Symbio staff were particularly concerned about the baby, which is still reliant on its mother’s milk.
The men have both been arrested and are helping police with their enquiries.
The baby monkey has been taken back home to Symbio, meanwhile the search continues for the other two monkeys.
