After years of lobbying for construction of a skate park, the Northern Illawarra Skateboarders Alliance has secured skate ramps. Now all they need is somewhere to put them!
Following a Nutri-Grain commercial, Kellogs gifted the Alliance two amazing ramps worth more than $200,000, which even glow in the dark!
They’re now calling on locals to help find the ramps a home, so local kids can make good use of them.
The street course is 35 meters long, the other is a 10 meter long half-pipe, so they need around 500 meters of indoor space, and that’s turning out to be quite the challenge
Alliance spokesman Glen Beadman says they need an industrial-style building, preferably between Bellambi and Thirroul. “We have held extensive talks with Council and while they’re supportive, they say it would cost as much to build somewhere to house the ramps as it would to build a concrete park outdoors and they are not in the position to do that.
“We are in contact contact with real estate agents but we really need some local knowledge. We need someone to let us know of a vacant shed or one that’s about to be vacated around Bellambi, Woonona or Thirroul.”
“There are some vacant sheds near McCauleys Estate. We just don’t know how to get permission use them so we’d really appreciate any help and information we can get.”
