Wollongong City Council is working with representatives of the Northern Districts Football Club and the Illawarra District Rugby League association to repair the damage to the Jim Allen oval at Wombarra after vandals drove onto the grass and tore up the surface.
Council staff have assessed the damage and will work this week to repair the damaged turf and top dress the oval.
Following completion of the works, the grounds will be assessed by Council and association representatives. If it’s not suitable for footy games on the weekend, an alternate venue will be organised.
There are no scheduled games on the ground for three weeks after this weekend, which will allow the oval time to recover.
