Wollongong Council voted this week to allow General Manager David Farmer to directly sign up new contractors to finish the job.
The pool has been closed since May when refurbishment work started, and was expected to be open for the warmer months, but the contractor went into liquidation, leaving the work unral Manager David Farmer to directly sign up new contractors to finish the job.
Interim workers are there at the moment to make the site safe and clean debris out of the pools.
Mayor Gordon Bradbury says $678,000 was set aside for the project, and to date, $511,000 has been spent, so despite the delays, with 75% of the work already completed, the job is still expected to come in under budget.
In short, serious action should start happening at Austinmer in the next few weeks, and we will hopefully be back swimming in the pools by the end of January.
