Both the Coledale Waves and Helensburgh Thistles have drawn the home ground advantage for Round Three of the prestigious FFA Cup.
However, in a blow to the waves, the Coledale game has been shifted to Elizabeth Park at Bellambi because the home ground, St James Park, couldn’t be made-ready in time for Saturday’s game.
Its the first time Coledale has had a team in the prestigious competition, with team member Tim Canosa saying it was an unexpected surprise.
“One of our players saw the FFA Cup online and filled out the application- and we were accepted,” he says.
“We are a bunch of mates who really enjoy the game,”says Tim. “We sit mid-table in the Wollongong AA1 division so will certainly go into the game against Penrith as underdogs- but we still have a shot!”
“We are actually really lucky to have been given this draw. When we look at some of the teams we could have come up against early on, it could have been a lot worse!”
114 NSW teams will enter the competition at this stage. There are more than 700 teams from across Australia vying for the FFA Cup.
The Coledale Waves take on Penrith Rovers at 2.30pm at Elizabeth Park Bellambi on Saturday afternoon. (March 10).
Helensburgh Thistle play Coniston at Helensburgh the following weekend.
