The team from Scarborough Boardriders will this weekend travel to Newcastle Beach to take on 24 clubs from across the country at the Nudie Australian Boardriders Battle.
They’re up against 18 qualifying clubs and six wildcards- including a team from Culburra Beach Boardriders- which is expected to include Women’s World Champion Tyler Wright, and her brothers, champion surfers Owen and Mikey.
The team from Scarborough will compete for a share of the $100,000 prize money. They’re also fighting to bring the ultimate nudie Australian Boardriders Battle championship trophy back to the Northern Illawarra.
The nudie Australian Boardriders Battle aims to build the sports profile and is sanctioned by the World Surf League (WSL)- so rep surfers have the opportunity to return to their local boardriders clubs for the challenge.
Scarborough Boardriders qualified for the prestigious event with a win at the Bombo Beach event in Kiama last September.
